Self-Storage Security Features to Keep Your Items Safe

Restricted, Code-Based Access
Every renter has a unique gate code to gain access to the storage facility, whether it’s a drive-up unit or an indoor, climate-controlled self-storage unit. This means every entryway requires a code to enter.
When you pull up to the gate, simply roll down your vehicle window, punch in the numbers, and wait for the gate to open. Pull through the gate promptly. After a certain time, the gate will close behind you automatically. We have gates at all of our facilities, including ones with just climate-controlled units.
Once inside the gate of a climate-controlled unit, there is another keypad to get in the door. The door will close behind you automatically for safety and security. If you are the only one heading to your storage unit, don’t forget to turn off your vehicle, grab your keys, and lock the vehicle before you head inside.
Locked Doors & Gates
All of our doors and gates lock securely a few moments after someone inputs their unique codes. Our computer system keeps a record of which codes are used at each entrance. This allows us to double-check what happens at a later date if needed. Gates are either sturdy chain-link or steel bars, depending on the type of gated access at each facility. The chain-link gates generally roll away after you put in the code. The ones with steel bars lift up.Meanwhile, the doors lock securely behind you when entering one of our climate-controlled self-storage facilities. These doors open like retail store doors, with the door sliding open to both sides with the lock in the middle.
Locks on Individual Units
Every self-storage unit must be locked when no one is accessing it. Several types of locks can go on your unit. However, we recommend a disc lock or a cylinder lock.
Disc Locks
Disc locks are round and require a small key to unlock them. They are very secure in that the locking metal rod is very short, making it very difficult to break. A disc lock fits perfectly with our latching system on the door of your storage unit in Cincinnati.
Cylinder Locks
A cylinder lock is also very secure. You need a cylinder lock hasp on your storage unit to make this work. The hasp keeps the door hardware from opening when the cylinder lock is in place. The mechanism works with a simple key that turns a bolt inside the hasp, making it very hard to remove the lock. Unlocking the cylinder allows you to pull the lock out before sliding the latching system to open your unit.
Hardware That Latches Securely
The door hardware is also important. Each door of our storage units in Cincinnati rolls up. The latching system is made of hardened steel, and it stays snug and secure in a steel frame attached to the door.
Latches easily slide in and out, so you can open or close the door without much effort. However, the hardware is very sturdy and difficult to break. Combine the latching system with your lock, and you have a stout combination designed to prevent theft.
Lighting and Visibility
Inside and out, our storage facilities are well-lit when you arrive while it’s dark. Entryways show a clear path to outdoor and indoor units. Keypads have backlighting on the display so you can see what numbers you key in. Outdoor flood lights make sure the pathways in between buildings are lit up. This allows you to easily locate your self-storage unit in Cincinnati once you’re on the property.Climate-controlled units are brightly lit, secure, and clean on the inside. Maps on walls show the way in and out from the door to your unit. You should have no problems locating your climate-controlled unit as you move things in and out.
Storage Insurance
Insurance is required for all storage units. Your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy can cover belongings in storage. Double-check your policy to see if you could use it to cover your items in storage. Bring a copy of your policy when you move into your storage unit.
If you do not have your own insurance policy, Circle Storage offers a variety of third-party, cost-effective options. Storage insurance goes up in price based on the value of your items. In general, storage insurance costs between $9 and $43 per month, depending on the provider and the items’ value.
